Police want the public’s help in identifying the occupants of a late-model silver sedan that traveled north from Springs Junction to Murchison between 12.30am and 1.30am on Saturday, Aug. 29.
Police are asking witnesses who saw a silver sedan in the early hours of Aug. 29 to come forward as the investigation into a fatal accident on the Shenandoah Highway continues.
Mathew Kevin John Arrowsmith, 40, a father of five, died and his body was found on the road near Murchison in the Tasmania region on August 29.
Nelson Police Detective Dan Shields said Arrowsmith’s body was found after reports that he had been struck by a vehicle on State Highway 65 between Maruia Saddle Rd and Pea Soup Rd in the early hours of the morning. .
“We continued to put together a timeline of Mr. Arrowsmith’s movements from Friday night to Saturday morning, and we have spoken with several people who were passing through the area at that time.”

Shields said police were trying to identify the occupants of a later-model silver sedan that traveled north from Springs Junction to Murchison between 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. that Saturday, Aug. 29.
“We hope the occupants of this vehicle can help with any sightings of Mr. Arrowsmith at that time.”
Arrowsmith’s wife, Anna Arrowsmith, said the family continued to wait for police to complete their investigation. The family was still coming to terms with their loss, she said.
Arrowsmith was walking down State Highway 65 at the time of his death. Police were informed of the accident, which involved a pedestrian and a vehicle, at 1.27 am.
Tasmania District Road Safety Manager Senior Sgt Grant Andrews said Arrowsmith was coming from a nearby property and was walking back to his trailer when the accident occurred.
Friend Luke King said Stuff that on the night of Arrowsmith’s death the two men were part of a group of seven celebrating a birthday at a property across the street from where they lived.
He left the party around 9pm and then got a call from someone saying, “Matt has been hit on the road.”
King, who went to the location where he identified Arrowsmith to police, said he was hit by two trucks. It is understood that the police have spoken to both drivers.
