Thousands of people have flocked to Sydney’s beaches as temperatures rise above 30 degrees Celsius, with many of them closing in the next few hours.
It’s a public holiday in New South Wales, and crowds have expressed concern over whether social distancing requirements are being met.
The images show Bondi and Coogee in the crowded eastern suburbs of Sydney, while in Clovelly people appear to be more widely spaced on the concrete.

Waverley City Council has warned that Bondi Beach will close because it is almost full.

“If people continue to come to Bondi Beach and the crowds increase, restricted access to the sand is likely to be implemented within the next hour from 2-3 pm,” the council said in a statement.
“If you haven’t been to the beach yet, reconsider your trip and check capacity later in the day.”
Further south, Cronulla Beach and all other Shire beaches are almost full.

In Clovelly, people seem to be spread out on the concrete at the water’s edge.
The beaches are at level two, which means they have not reached their capacity. Every 45 minutes there is an ad telling people to distance themselves socially.
In the Royal National Park near Wollongong, the popular Wattamolla Beach has reached its full capacity, so the road has been closed. Nearby Garie Beach has also reached capacity, so Garie Road is closed.
