Firefighters have fought a fire near Ninety Mile Beach and will reassess the situation at dawn.
Firefighters have contained a blaze in Ahipara in the far north, but will reassess the situation early.
The bush fire near the southern end of Ninety Mile Beach caused four properties to be evacuated Sunday afternoon.
Police understood that there had been more evacuations on Kaitaia-Awaroa Rd, but the number of homes evacuated was not yet confirmed.

A fire at the Jaycee Building on Willis St in downtown Wellington started when a circuit was cut off.
Fire Northern Communications shift manager Colin Underdown said at 10 p.m. that the fire was contained, but that firefighters would likely return at dawn to check the area again.

The fire burned about ten hectares. It also prompted the evacuation of properties around 1.30pm, a police spokeswoman said.
Police were still on the scene shortly after 10 p.m. and were helping with traffic control.
Herekino Gorge, Ngakaroa Rd, and Roma Rd were still closed Sunday night.
The Northland fire broke out on an unusually busy weekend for New Zealand firefighters.
A massive forest fire consumed around 1,600 hectares and destroyed at least 20 homes on Lake Ōhau in the Mackenzie Basin on the South Island.
In Wellington, an electrical fire caused part of the CBD to be cordoned off Sunday afternoon.
And in Takaka, 100 km northwest of Nelson, seven fire crews and two helicopters battled a forest fire on Sunday.
