Lightning, thunder and heavy rain have triggered flood and wind advisories in Southland as the region faces a week of wild weather.

The owner of the Aparima restaurant and bar, Hannah Bickley, said the rain in the coastal city had been pouring down. “Half of Riverton is under water and it is not a high tide.”

“There is a lot, a lot of rain.”

Bickley captured video of lightning Saturday night from the restaurant’s terrace. He saw lightning and a storm approaching over the hill and he put his camera where he thought it would be another hit and he was right.
