All the action as the White Ferns take on Australia in the first ODI Rose Bowl.

The White Ferns snapped their 13-game losing streak to Australia in a thrilling final on Wednesday, and Amelia Kerr saw them at home in her third and final Twenty20 in Brisbane.

Down 2-0 in the series, the clash was a dead rubber, but it will give New Zealand team confidence heading into the three-game ODI Rose Bowl series as they earned their first win over Australia in any format since February 2017.

Kerr was the hero. After being put on strike needing seven to win from five balls, she hit Megan Schutt in the middle of the field for four, before hitting her on the side of the leg for another limit to seal a five-field victory with three balls to spare .

It was arguably closer than it should have been after the Kiwi bowlers did well to restrict Australia to 123-7, with Kerr (2-18 out of four) standing out and supported by his sister Jess (0- 15 out of three) and Lea Tahuhu (2-29 out of four).

Sophie Devine and Maddy Green also picked up a wicket each, but couldn’t get the White Ferns off to a quick start when they opened with the bat, with Devine making 25 of 22 balls before being stumped by some crafty Georgia Wareham bowling while Green rallied. only 10 out of 17.

Suzie Bates’ struggles continued with just three of eight balls, but Amy Satterthwaite (30 of 25) and Katey Martin (23 of 24) caused the hosts to need 30 runs of 30 balls again.

However, they fell in quick succession, with Wareham surprisingly only used for three overs, Bowling Martin and Satterthwaite trailing the equally impressive Jess Jonassen (1-15 of four).

That left Kerr and Hayley Jensen needing 26 of 22 balls. The pair had been in this situation before, almost seeing the White Ferns at home from an unlikely position against India at the Twenty20 World Cup earlier this year, and this time they did better when Kerr broke the Ferns’ drought.

The two teams resume their rivalry at the Rose Bowl, which New Zealand has not won since 1999, on Saturday.
