Text messages sent and received by former rugby league player Sam Burgess have revealed an alleged affair since the height of his professional career.

NewsCorp obtained WhatsApp messages between Burgess and a woman from October 2017 to May 2018, in which they have flirty exchanges and organize to meet in Melbourne hotels.

In the leaked messages, they refer to each other as “Chunky Butt”, “The Big Rig” and “Monkey”. The couple also shared photos of themselves.

In the edited version of the online exchanges, Burgess messaged the women the day before England’s World Cup match against Australia in October 2017.

“Sorry honey I honestly can’t do it tonight. Totally against everything I do I set all the standards and shit and if anyone knows you or sees you come into my room the day before the biggest test match of the season, I’ll get him crushed, “Burgess wrote.

“If I wasn’t a senior player it would be easier to do, but I can’t.”

The day before, Burgess had told the woman that he was “half naked” when they arranged to meet in Melbourne.

The woman texted Burgess hours after he limped off the field with a knee injury in the first half of England’s 18-4 loss.

“There are no words that do justice. I really hope it’s just a little something. I was so proud of you tonight that you killed him. Your passion for Cronk was epic. I know you have a lot on your mind, but at some point give me a call and talk. I wish I could crush you and nestle your neck right now, “he wrote.

“As of tomorrow I will not contact you anymore. Simply shattered by you tonight. You have a kind of curse on me. I want to give you a big hug. You have this, listen to the doctors, follow your rehabilitation to a T and you will be training in a few weeks. I’m going to stop texting you for a few weeks as word has gotten out that your wife is in town. A little confused with everything we talked about, but with the least of your worries I just know I’m here and always thinking of you … thank you for the most amazing week. “

Burgess replied, “My wife took the trip today with my daughter. I felt like an idiot after we spoke. I am so sorry I got you into all my shit that I should never have opened my mouth.

“I have a lot to order now with my knee tomorrow as well.

“Thank you for being so attentive and listening.”

After nearly four months of silence, the woman sent Burgess a message out of nowhere in May 2018.

“I see things showing up on my insta feed and I have to say it really makes me question all the shit you gave me to get into bed,” she wrote.

“To walk into my house and all the hours we spent talking about how unhappy you were and living separate lives … why would you do this not only to your wife but to me?

“I feel like the dumbest. How dare you?”

Burgess married Phoebe Hooke in December 2015, and the couple welcomed their first daughter in January 2017. After the birth of their second child in December 2018, the couple separated and reconciled, before parting ways again. in October 2019.

On Thursday night, The Australian published an explosive report in which Burgess was charged with allegations of violence and substance abuse.

Burgess confirmed that he has since retired from his role as a development coach with the Rabbitohs, and also from his media duties with Fox Sports.
