A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a truck Friday morning on the Hawke’s Bay Expressway.

One person was killed in a serious accident on the Hawke’s Bay Expressway in Napier.

Police were called to the scene at 7.32am on Friday. The accident occurred near Watchman Rd and Main North Rd, in Westshore near Hawke’s Bay Airport, a police spokeswoman said.

Part of the highway was closed and detours had been set up, police said.

A motorcyclist died after colliding with a truck Friday morning on the Hawke’s Bay Expressway.

Police said two vehicles were involved in the accident, understood to be a truck and a motorcycle, and a motorcyclist had died.

A spokesperson for St John Ambulance said the service dispatched an ambulance and rapid response vehicle to the scene.

Motorists wishing to travel north of Napier were advised to take Poraiti Rd and then Glengarry Rd.

Deviations are likely to persist for several hours.

A woman who had lived in the area for several years said it was notorious for the crashes, but said the area had improved slightly since the installation of the roundabout.

The accident occurred after 7 a.m. Friday on Hawke's Bay Expressway near the airport.
