A Russian cleaner unwittingly won a local election after she entered only to have her boss reelected.
Marina Udgodskaya submitted her name in the Povalikhino village elections because Nikolai Loktev needed a “rival” in the elections to meet the requirement of having at least two candidates.
Udgodskaya had been cleaning the Povalikhino administration building for four years, but then hit the pro-Kremlin United Russia Party supporter. She won nearly 62 percent of the vote, the BBC reports.
“Nikolai Loktev thought that no one would vote for her and he would stay in office,” a member of the local electoral commission told the BBC. “But the people had had enough and they went out and chose Marina Udgodskaya.”

“He was amazed and she was stunned!”
Udgodskaya said she didn’t think people would vote for her,
“I didn’t do anything at all!” he told the Podyom news channel.
She intends to keep a low profile before her unveiling later this week.
