Collins made the announcement to mark International Senior Citizens’ Day, saying National was making a “commitment to New Zealand’s seniors.”
“National will direct the Senior Office to negotiate enhanced discounts with the SuperGold card for hearing aids, dental and vision.
“In addition to our commitment to the SuperGold Card, National’s tax cuts will generate an additional $ 1,000 for couples who receive the SuperGold Card. We will also maintain the Winter Power Payment. “
“The SuperGold card offers discounts for seniors to enjoy restaurants and cafes across the country. Along with our fiscal stimulus, we will encourage people to go out and support the hotel industry to recover from the economic crisis.
“Labor has been slow to improve the SuperGold card. They have not published any policies and have yet to make a firm commitment to retain the SuperGold card.
Collins criticized the phasing out of checkbooks by Labor, which are still used by many older people.
“Older people have been greatly affected by Covid-19, those living in retirement villages have been separated from their families and friends through multiple blockades. National will offer a stronger and smarter border with our Border Protection Agency, reducing the likelihood of subsequent closures, “Collins said.
National will announce its senior policy in the coming days.
