Chris Wallace of Fox News was moderating the debate, first asking about the Supreme Court, healthcare, and the Covid-19 response.

Democratic candidate Joe Biden spoke about the Covid-19 death count in the United States, as it exceeds 200,000.

“Two hundred thousand dead.” Forty thousand people a day hiring Covid. The president has no plan. He hasn’t said anything.

“I knew in February how serious this crisis was,” Biden said, referring to journalist Bob Woodward’s new book that reported that Trump wanted to “downplay” the seriousness of Covid-19 because he didn’t want to cause panic.

“He waited and waited and waited and he still doesn’t have a plan,” Biden said. “We should provide all possible protective equipment.”

He said Trump should “get off the golf course” and fund what needs to be funded to save lives.

Trump responded immediately: “If we had listened to you, millions of people would have died.”

“It’s China’s fault, it should never have happened.”

Trump said he faced criticism for his decision to close borders.

“You wouldn’t have closed it for two months,” he told Biden.

“We got the gowns, we got the masks, we got the ventilators, we are weeks away from a vaccine. You could never have done the job we did.”

The death of Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg last week sparked a debate over her replacement, the time so close to the November 3 US election.

Trump said they had a “phenomenal” candidate, Amy Coney Barrett.

“She’s going to be fantastic. We have a lot of time. I have a lot of time after the election.”

“We won the elections and therefore we have the right to choose her.”

He said the Democrats would have done it faster.

Biden responded by saying that “the American people have a right to have a say in who the Supreme Court is.”

“The election has already started, tens of thousands have already voted. We should wait. That is the only way the American people can express their point of view is who they elect as president and who they elect as vice president.”

He said “it was just not appropriate to do this before the election.”

Moderator Chris Wallace asked Trump about his promise to repeal Obamacare and said he had not yet come up with a comprehensive plan to do so.

“I’m cutting drug prices,” Trump said. “Drug prices will go down 80 to 90 percent.”

“I don’t want to give them much better health care at a much lower price.”

Biden said Trump had cost 10 million people their health care and wanted to take Obamacare away from him.

“He doesn’t have any health care plans. He sends out illusions. He doesn’t have any, like almost everything else he talks about.

“This man doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” Biden said.

Trump compared Biden to Bernie Sanders, and Biden said, “I beat Bernie Sanders.”

“Not for long,” Trump said.

Biden then accused Trump of lying: “Anyone knows he’s a liar.”

“Joe, you are the liar,” Trump said.

Biden told Trump to “shut up” and added, “keep barking, man.”
