But Robinson is adamant that NZR didn’t sign either.
“We didn’t agree with the schedule and we didn’t agree with the schedule or the announcement,” Robinson insists.
But the minutes of that meeting clearly show a December 12 ending, meaning it was on NZ Rugby’s radar.
In fact, NZR had contracted with the government to try to negotiate a more favorable quarantine period of just 10 days.
Robinson denies that NZR has requested government help.
“This is not a government problem,” he says. “We are working with Rugby Australia and SANZAAR in this regard.”
On Wednesday, All Blacks captain Sam Cane doubled down on claims the team was “shocked” by SANZAAR’s decision.
“My first reaction was exactly that: ‘hey, that’s not what I understand, where is this coming from?” Cane says.
“I got on the phone to [coach Ian Foster] pretty fast and he was in the same boat … like ‘oh we didn’t see it coming.’
NZR may hold its ground, but it seems like there should be nothing to be surprised about.
