Election 2020: botany candidates for local deputy

[ad_1]

In the run-up to the 2020 elections, Stuff keeps voters up-to-date with what is happening in their constituency, through Neighborly. Here’s what you need to know about the candidates in the Botany MP race.

In the October 17 election, New Zealanders will have the opportunity to choose their regional spokesperson.

Through the Mixed Proportional Membership (MMP) voting system, registrants can vote for the party of their choice, as well as for a local representative.

Why does my MP matter?

The person elected will be the voice of their region in Parliament. If you have problems obtaining rights or dealing with government departments, they can help you. If your community needs funding for certain projects or activities, or if there isn’t enough health care in the area, your deputy-elect can step in and help.

What regions are part of the botany electorate?

Botany’s constituency stretches from Cockle Bay in the north, through Botany Downs and East Tāmaki, to Flat Bush in the south. Boundary changes in 2014 saw more of the Flat Bush area west of Chapel Road incorporated into the electorate. Its western border, south of Burswood, extends to the Tāmaki River.
