Melissa Ewings, 31, has been missing in the Clarence area for more than a week.
As police narrow their search for a missing woman north of Kaikōura for more than a week, local concerns are mounting.
Melissa Ewings, 31, was last seen on the afternoon of September 20, after telling her friends that she was going for a walk along the Clarence River.
She had to go to work the next day and the alarm was raised after she did not show up.
Sergeant Major Peter Payne said Tuesday that the physical search was winding down, but the “broader investigation phase” was ongoing.

“Every piece of information we receive helps us build a detailed schedule of their movements,” he said.
Kaikōura companies have been putting up signs around the city in hopes that they can help bring Ewings home.
On Monday, police said the search would continue “for the next several days, weather permitting,” but did not say how many people had been involved or how many would continue.
Ewings’ friends and family had serious concerns for his well-being, police said. She hadn’t indicated that she would be gone long.
Anyone who saw her in the Clarence area on Sunday should call police on 105, citing file number 200922/5064.
