A police investigation is underway after a man with a gunshot wound was found on Fairy Springs Rd in Rotorua.

A police media spokeswoman said the man was found near Sky Supermarket around 1 a.m. Sunday.

The man was now at Waikato Hospital in stable condition.

For Sherrill Flavell, the incident, which occurred near her home, was disturbing.

“I woke up when my kids got home and noticed all the flashing lights. I got up and there were just police everywhere.

“My children informed me that when they were returning home, the police stopped and informed them that someone had been shot.”

Flavell’s first thought was that he was too close to home, then questions began to arise about what actually happened.

Police said they were following a series of lines of investigation and had found a vehicle involved in the incident.

A forensic examination is in progress.

A spokesman for St John said they were notified of the incident through a call to 111 and an ambulance was dispatched to the scene. The patient was treated there before being transferred to Rotorua Hospital, he said.

There was no further information available on the incident at this time, but that did not ease Flavell’s concerns.

She expected to hear something from the police amid concerns for her own safety after the event.

“Actually, it was a big problem for me. I was really worried, worried about the neighborhood.”

Anyone with information can call the police on 105 and quote file number 200927/1634 or can provide information anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
