It’s not often that you can get on your skis right outside your front door, at least not for the Queenstown woman Natalie Urbani, who, thanks to an expected snow deposit near sea level, was able to ski in the golf and the fairways of your neighborhood this morning.

Urbani says he was hoping the “weather bomb” would bring some more snow, but he didn’t expect to be able to ski this close to home.

“We found out about the storm and we thought it would happen overnight, but then at 6.30am there was green grass outside. We thought we had missed it. The Remarkables were closed so I went back to sleep for a bit more, then at 9am. I woke up and there was a blizzard, “he said.

The woman, who lives in the Kelvin Heights suburb, not far from the Queenstown golf course, told the Herald I hadn’t been able to ski this close to home in recent years.

“In the 90s, we could ski on the golf course sometimes, but not in recent years,” he said.

Urbani, a keen skier, climbs the mountain most mornings for fun on the slopes, before heading back to town in time to start work at 4pm.

Yesterday was, in fact, his 84th day skiing this season, and he hopes he can sneak in a bit more before spring begins.

When the Herald He spoke to her in the middle of the afternoon, noted that the weather was starting to approach again, and his fingers are crossed for another fresh snow dump on the low level.
