UFC 253: And still! Israel Adesanya destroys Paulo Costa to defend UFC middleweight title

Costa seemed so hesitant that, at one point, both fighters stopped, Adesanya pointed at his opponent and yelled “Romero,” referring to the Cuban’s lack of departure during their fight in March.

His only response was to charge up with jump kicks, and while some found their mark, they almost always encountered Adesanya’s left or right hand.

Meanwhile, Adesanya remained patient and calculated, while Costa began to weaken under the barrage of kicks.

At the end of the second round, a right kick to the head found its mark, opening Costa on his right brow. Smelling the resulting blood, Adesanya came forward with multiple combinations, marking the beginning of the end for the Brazilian.

Adesanya’s post-fight comments showed there is no love for Costa, with whom she has had a verbal and social media battle for nearly two years.

“I still don’t like him,” Adesanya said. “I don’t know him personally, I don’t want him to die or anything. She’s alive, I let her be alive.

“This is the game we play, this is violence and I told them it was going to be violent and I said it, it was going to be violent and it would end quickly, and that’s what I did.

“I’m fresh. I can go next weekend, I can go anytime. I want to spend time with my family because it has been a crazy year so I want to spend time with my people.”
