The Ministry of Health reported on Saturday a new case of COVID-19 and another historical case.

The new case was picked up in a managed isolation facility. There are no new cases in the community.

The virus was found in a man in his 30s who arrived from Russia, via the United Arab Emirates, on September 21. The infection was detected during a third-day test and is now under quarantine.

The landmark case relates to a person who was aboard a recent flight from Christchurch to Auckland, where a positive case was detected earlier this month.

“They had given negative results on day three and day 12 in controlled isolation,” the ministry said. They were re-examined and the historical infection was detected, although not believed to be linked to the Christchurch group, the ministry said “any infection would have occurred abroad before the person returned to New Zealand earlier this month and no longer they are infectious. ” .

“As we have said previously about historical cases, we know that some people can return a positive PCR test long after they have recovered from the disease and are no longer infectious.

“As an additional update to this flight, all the passengers have been screened except one: a young child.

“Aside from the three previously reported cases and today’s landmark case, all results have been negative, with one pending.”
