Person Confirmed Dead After Vehicle Crashed In Hutt Valley Creek

One person died after a car plunged into a Lower Hutt stream.

The single-vehicle accident occurred around 5.30 a.m. Thursday on Main Rd in the Lower Hutt suburb of Wainuiomata.

The vehicle, which was on its roof, was submerged on the main road between Moohan St and Rowe Parade, police said.

Police confirmed that one person had died.

The car plunged into Wainuiomata Creek Thursday morning.  The driver's body was previously removed.

At 10.20 am, the car had been towed out of the creek and the police were photographing it on the road. The highway had reopened at 11:20 am on Thursday.

People could be seen hugging and hugging after it appeared to have lifted a body from the water.

The car, a dark-colored vehicle, was upside down in the creek, about 10-15 meters below the road.
