One person is believed to have died after a car plunged into a Lower Hutt stream.
The single-vehicle accident occurred around 5.30 a.m. Thursday on Main Rd in the Lower Hutt suburb of Wainuiomata.
The vehicle, which was on its roof, was submerged on the main road between Moohan St and Rowe Parade, police said.
Police confirmed that one person was likely dead.

The car plunged into Wainuiomata Creek Thursday morning.
At 10.20 am, the car had been towed out of the creek and the police were photographing it on the road.
The police dive squad was seen checking the creek.
Police were expected to be at the scene, near St. Patrick’s Church and the Wainuiomata Rugby Football Club, for several hours.
People could be seen hugging and hugging after it appeared to have lifted a body from the water.
Police and other emergency services personnel at the scene were comforting those present.

The police did not appear to be looking for anyone else.
The car, a dark-colored vehicle, was upside down in the creek, about 10-15 meters below the road.
Several officers along with the fire service were present at the scene. Evidence markers had been placed on Main Rd with a police photographer there as well.
