CCTV footage of a random kidnapping incident has been released in an attempt to help police find the criminals.

On August 25, a couple was sitting in a parked car on Shelley Bay Rd at around 8 p.m. when a car pulled up and forced the man into the back of a dark-colored sedan.

Detective Sergeant Stephen Wescott said the couple did not know the two criminals, both men.

“The victim’s partner left the area in a black BMW hatchback and headed toward Kilbirnie, where the sedan followed,” he said.

Video footage shows the BMW turning into a parking area on Rongotai Road between KFC and Mobil, then stopping.

The sedan can be seen parking behind the BMW, where one of the two men gets out and approaches the BMW.

The moment the car stops the victim escapes and can be seen in the footage running across the road towards PAK’nSAVE on Onepu Road.

“While the victim and her partner were not physically harmed, the incident was extremely traumatic for them. Police believe this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing risk to the community. “

Detective Sergeant Wescott is calling witnesses who recall seeing the two vehicles in the vicinity of Shelly Bay Road, Miramar Avenue, Cobham Drive, Troy Street, Rongotai Road, Evans Bay Parade and Onepu Road between 8 p.m. and 8.45 p.m. or they have an in-dash camera or CCTV footage that may have captured them.
