Auckland traffic: Southern motorway accident blocking northbound lanes on Khyber Pass exit ramp

Auckland motorists face longer delays after an accident closed northbound lanes on the South Freeway this afternoon.

The accident, which involved a tanker and at least one car trapped underneath it, took place just past the Khyber Pass exit ramp.

St John’s ambulance transports a patient in serious condition to Auckland City Hospital.

Police say three northbound lanes are currently blocked and there is heavy congestion as a result.

The accident is compounding delays for northbound drivers due to the closure of the Auckland Harbor Bridge lanes in both directions.

Traffic is now jammed back to Greenlane and creeping into Ellerslie.

NZTA has advised motorists to drive through the scene carefully and expect delays.

Police were notified of the accident in the northbound lanes shortly after 1:30 pm today.

“Motorists are advised to expect delays or use an alternative route when possible.”
