A gang member has been charged with manslaughter after the car he was driving collided with a “hard-working, fun-loving” motorcyclist.
Grant Wilson, 33, died after the accident on White Pine Bush Rd near Whakatane in the Bay of Plenty around 6:20 p.m. on June 6.

Grant Wilson, born in Tokoroa, was an installer and maintenance operator by profession.
At the time of his death, he was living with his parents in Taneatua and working for a neighboring dairy farmer.
On the afternoon of June 6, Wilson was “shooting the breeze” on his motorcycle like he used to, his mother said.
However, he did not return home before dark as he used to.
“As soon as we saw the police officers standing at our glass door, we knew something had gone wrong,” Sheryl Wilson said.
“It’s every parent’s worst nightmare.”
Wilson said he wanted “justice to be done because [our son] he was totally innocent. “
“I was enjoying a beautiful afternoon walk,” he said.
