The total number of active cases in New Zealand is 62 after nine people recovered from the virus. Of these, 33 are community cases and 29 on the border.

The total number of New Zealand cases remains at 1,464.

Three people are hospitalized with Covid-19, one in Auckland City, Middlemore and North Shore hospitals. The three are isolated in a general room.

Bloomfield praised the man who recently returned from India and passed two tests in quarantine before failing a test after developing symptoms once he was released from controlled isolation. Prior to testing positive on Saturday, and two family members tested positive yesterday, New Zealand had gone four days in a row without a case in the community.

“When he developed symptoms, he quickly sought advice from Healthline, got tested, and isolated himself, as well as members of his family,” said Bloomfield.

“This is exactly the kind of vigilance that will help us stay ahead of the virus.

“I would like to thank him and his family again for their quick thinking. Everything indicates that this has prevented the virus from spreading further.”

Bloomfield said 40 people were isolated at the community’s Auckland quarantine facility, which includes 17 people who have tested positive for Covid-19 and their household contacts.

The prime minister confirmed shortly after the case numbers were announced that Auckland will move to alert level 2 on Wednesday evening, while the alert level for the rest of the country will drop to level 1 tonight.
