Man seriously injured in Christchurch car shooting

A man has arm and back injuries following a shooting from a vehicle in Christchurch.

Detective Sgt. Craig Farrant said officers were called to report a shooting near Hereford St around 2 p.m. Saturday. Stuff he understands that it was a shooting from a vehicle, with the man shot in the back and arm.

Farrant said the man was taken to hospital where he is reportedly in critical condition.

Police were conducting scene surveys at an apartment block at the corner of Hereford and England streets, as well as a property on Emmett St, Shirley. Farrant said police were speaking to “several people” in connection with the shooting.

“Police want to assure the community that while firearm events always present an unacceptable risk, it is believed that there is no ongoing risk to the general public.

Officers spoke with two people related to the management, and two cars were towed off the property shortly after 4 p.m.
