There are two new coronavirus cases in New Zealand on Saturday, including one in the community.

The Health Ministry said the source of the latest community case was being investigated.

All close contacts have been identified by the Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS) and have been isolated and tested.

The latest cases come after no new Covid-19 cases were reported in the community or in managed isolation on Friday, the first time in more than a month. The last day without cases was August 10.

On Friday, 54 people linked to the current community group remained in the Auckland quarantine facility dedicated to the cases.

That included 22 people with the virus and their household contacts.

Four people were in the hospital with Covid-19. One at Auckland City Hospital, one at North Shore Hospital and two at Middlemore Hospital, and one in intensive care.

The total number of active cases stood at 70, with the total number of cases since the first outbreak being 1,458.

The ministry also revealed that the family of a Chapel Downs Elementary girl who tested positive for the virus was informed of the result nine minutes after entering school on Monday.

The news came as she moved to clear up the inconsistencies when health officials discovered she had been to school.

A spokeswoman confirmed that the girl’s lab tests were carried out over the weekend of September 12 and 13.

The girl’s positive test result came on Sunday and the family was notified at 8.39 a.m. on Monday, nine minutes after she was dropped off at school.

All Chapel Downs students and staff have been asked to take the test.

The ministry said that as of 9 a.m. Saturday, 658 members of the school community had been tested, with 617 negative, 41 pending and 0 positive.

A spokeswoman said community testing centers and primary care had received a surveillance code for testing asymptomatic members of the community.

“There will be additional evidence where the person did not specify that they were related to Chapel Downs Elementary School, so their test was not coded as such,” he said.

A pop-up testing center is running at the school until Sunday, September 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
