Some relatives of an Auckland boy killed earlier this year are refusing to help the police with the investigation into his death.
The results of an investigation into the death of 14-month-old Sofia Taueki-Jackson show that she died of a “catastrophic head injury” deliberately inflicted at her home on Flat Bush Road, Clover Park on May 23 this year.
Detective Inspector Tofilau Fa’amanuia Va’aelua of Manukau Counties is calling anyone with information about her death to come forward, after some members of her immediate family refused to assist in the investigation.
“The police are appealing to those who really cared for Sofia to be her voice and speak up.”
Almost four months after his death, no arrests have been made.
“The police would like to thank the members of the whānau who have chosen to assist in the investigation and seek justice for Sofia,” says Va’aelua.
“Although several have spoken to the police, there are key members of the immediate whānau who were present but are refusing to assist in the investigation.”
“We are simply looking for the truth for Sofia. Tell us what you know, however insignificant it may seem.
“I encourage anyone with information about the events that led to Sofia suffering her fatal injuries to come forward.”
Police will not stop investigating Sofia’s death until those responsible are held accountable, Va’aelua says.
“Our goal is to hold those responsible for Sofia’s death accountable.”
The police are also working with Oranga Tāmariki and other agencies.
