Truck accident wreaks havoc on Auckland Harbor Bridge

A major truck accident is wreaking havoc on traffic on Auckland’s Harbor Bridge.

The large vehicle is blocking all four center lanes in both directions after it flew sideways.

The truck was understood to have crashed before being overturned by a violent blast at the top of the bridge.

NZTA warns motorists to avoid crossing this section of the highway after the dramatic accident.

It comes when Auckland is hit by strong winds and rain. Gusts of up to 89 km / h have been reported around Auckland in the last 10 minutes, according to the MetService.

Winds of up to 37km / h were reported at Auckland Harbor Bridge around 11am

Traffic is stopped and recovery of the remains is expected to take several hours.

Lanes in both directions are affected by the accident.

Emergency services are heading to the scene.

A police spokesman said it was unclear if there were any injuries.
