Security footage shows a man with a gunshot wound left in a car at a central Auckland cathedral, where he was found this morning.
The man is now stable in the hospital.
A security camera outside St. Patrick’s Cathedral recorded a car arriving at 7:30 a.m. and waiting a few minutes, because a woman was praying outside, cathedral secretary Rebecca Knibb said.
A man got out of the front seat with a bandage on his lower leg, with no visible blood.
The wounded man sat on a bollard and lit a cigarette.
Knibb said the other people in the car appeared to know the man and called an ambulance, before setting off at a regular speed.
Police is on the case.
A worker at a nearby cafe said it was surprising that they found a man with a gunshot wound on what would otherwise be a quiet morning.
“A customer told me that he saw an ambulance, a police car and a fire truck outside the church … I didn’t see anything when I left … I only saw a police car leaving,” he said.
A spokesperson for St John says an ambulance, a Rapid Response Unit and a manager responded.
