Leader Winston Peters and MP Fletcher Tabuteau are first and second, respectively. Marcroft has gone from his ninth place in the last election to number 17, making his way back to Parliament practically impossible.
Above her are newcomer Talani Meikle at number eight and former MPs Denis O’Rourke (10) and Mahesh Bindra (12).
Peters says that as a leader, list rankings are not his responsibility.

“You will have to ask the listing committee that I am not responsible for that. In that context, the matter is a matter for New Zealand First’s board of directors and its directors, and that is all I can say.”
She says she has been an effective deputy.
“Of course … but I can’t go through individual candidates whether I agree or not … as far as I know Jenny has been fine and I have done some serious work with her, but again you ask me to answer on behalf of the committee of lists of which I am not responsible, the president of the party yes “.
Talani has been an advisor to Tabuteau for the past three years. When asked if the ranking on the list was a reflection of his work at the time, he took a sheet from his leader’s book.
“Well, you should probably ask that of the listing committee.”
“As for the placement of the list, my opinion does not influence it, as Winston has hinted that it is a committee situation to make this decision, but it is certainly an honor to be at number eight and I look forward to representing New Zealand. First in Parliament.

Meikle said she was comfortable with the representation of women in the party and the caucus.
“As a woman and as a young woman, we base these decisions on a democratic process but we also base them on merit. That is something that interests me particularly, that they choose me not because of symbolism, not because I am a woman just to be placed in a position I want be there because I have the right skills, aptitude and ability to do the job. “
“So, yes, very comfortable.”
Peters denied that the ranking of the list had anything to do with gender.
“You don’t have any political party with as many women at the top of the party like New Zealand First … you have women who have made this decision so I agree with the decisions they make.”
