Police have found a prisoner who was granted compassionate permission to attend a tangihanga for a gang member in Papakura, and who initially did not return.
The court granted the 27-year-old man compassionate bond to attend a relative’s tangihanga, but he did not return to the Mt Eden Correctional Center Tuesday afternoon.
Police confirmed that the tangihanga in question was held in Papakura for a gang member who disobeyed alert level 2 restrictions.
On Tuesday night, shortly after 8 p.m., and several hours after his disappearance was announced, police said in a statement that they had found him after showing up that night. “The police thank the public for their help.”
