Daryl Hemopo, 27, has distinctive facial tattoos.
An inmate who was granted compassionate leave to attend a tangihanga did not return and is now being searched by police in Auckland.
Daryl Hemopo, 27, has several active warrants on serious charges including aggravated robbery, indecent assault of a woman, and assaulting police.
The court granted him compassionate bond to attend a relative’s tangihanga, but did not return to Mt Eden Correctional Center Tuesday afternoon.
Inspector Dave Glossop, Manukau South Counties Area Commander, said police were trying to locate Hemopo.

“If you see Hemopo or know where he is, call 111 immediately. It is considered dangerous and should not be approached ”.
He is described as 161 cm tall with a slim build.
Anyone with information should contact police Olivia Gregory at 105.
There are currently two escaped prisoners in Auckland.
Convicted murderer Katrina Epiha fled custody at Middlemore Hospital around 12:30 a.m. Friday.
Epiha was jailed in 2019 for the murder of Christchurch mother Alicia Maree Nathan.
It has not yet been located.
