An early morning house fire in Gore is being treated as a suspect.

Police declined to comment on whether the incidents were gang-related, but said there would be increased patrols and support from East Southland Police to ensure local communities were kept safe while these matters were fully investigated.
A New Zealand Fire and Emergency spokesperson said two teams from Gore, followed by two teams from Mataura, were dispatched to the fire on Hokonui Dr, Gore, at 2 am Tuesday.
The fire was ablaze when crews arrived at the scene, with initial concerns that people were in the home, the spokesman said.
The fire is believed to have started from outside the building, he said.
Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area at night, particularly in the period between 1 a.m.
