Four people are facing charges after police arrested commercial-scale methamphetamine labs in Waikato with the help of the public.
Police closed four labs after attacking five addresses in Matamata, Waharoa and Morrinsville over the weekend.
Detective Inspector Graham Pitkethley said police seized methamphetamine and commercial quantities of methamphetamine chemicals and manufacturing equipment.
“In the end, we were able to do this because of the determination of our community that helped us identify this harmful behavior in their neighborhoods and came forward to inform us.”
He said the information the public provides to the police about unusual or suspicious behavior helps the police build a complete picture about the manufacture, distribution and supply of drugs.
The information can be anything from the comings and goings of vehicles at unusual times to chemical odors or the presence of security and surveillance systems.
In the coming weeks, a 35-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman, a 56-year-old man and a 59-year-old man will appear in Hamilton District Court on various charges, including manufacturing. methamphetamine, supply of methamphetamine and possession of equipment and materials for the purpose of manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of firearms.
