John Campbell and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern shared some laughs about “raucous” sound issues in Dunedin during a live interview.

Throughout the interview, Campbell had to repeatedly ask the prime minister if she could hear him, and even got her cameraman to relay the questions to her. She also asked the camera operator to “turn up the volume.”

“There’s a bit of noise around you … it’s rush hour in Dunedin,” Campbell joked.

“Can you hear me, Prime Minister? Uncle.”

Both Ardern and Campbell ignored noise issues during the interview, and the pair laughed when the bells began to ring and completely drowned out the conversation.

“Oh my giddy aunt,” Campbell laughed. “Then Robbie Burns will get up and start wandering.”

“Sorry I couldn’t hear you over the bells John,” Ardern replied.

At the end of the interview, Campbell thanked the Prime Minister for accompanying him from the “thunderous” of Dunedin.

“It’s not even that loud on a Saturday night when the students are in town,” he joked.

Ardern faced similar sound issues, especially from the squawking seagulls, during his live interview with Duncan Garner on The AM Show.

Ardern joked that it was “live television” from Dunedin, and the camera operator even panned for the seagulls to appear in the frame.

When Ardern joked that Garner was “lucky” not to have heard the bells, they began to ring immediately afterward.
