According to the Electoral Law, the car must be issued within seven days after the dissolution of Parliament, which was on September 6.
The Electoral Commission must return the letter with the names of the successful candidates in the 2020 elections to the Secretary of the House of Representatives within 60 days, in this case on Thursday, November 12.
The next Parliament can last for three years from the day the car is returned, although the prime minister can go to the polls earlier if he wishes.
The car was signed today at Government House, the official residence of the Governor General in Wellington.
