Pedestrian dies after accident in Napier

A pedestrian died after being hit by a car in Napier.

Emergency services were called for the accident on Gloucester St, Napier, around 6.34pm Thursday night,

The road was closed while the Serious Accident Unit investigated the scene.

Diversions were made and a police investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.

“Serious accident investigations can take some time, months in some cases, depending on the complexity,” said a police spokeswoman.

Emergency services were also called in to two more crashes in Hawke’s Bay overnight.

Police received a report of a two-car accident on Faraday St, in the Napier suburb of Hospital Hill, around 7.41 p.m. Thursday.

No one was injured and the road was not blocked. Two fire trucks rushed to the scene.

Emergency services were also called into a single vehicle accident near the intersection of Te Mata Rd and Waimarama Rd, Havelock North, around 5.50am on Friday.

A spokeswoman for St John Ambulance said an ambulance was dispatched to the scene, but no one was injured.

A tow truck was called in to remove the vehicle that was blocking the intersection.
