Jacinda Ardern says it is “frustrating” that some people have not been fully open with contact tracing teams, after new cases of Covid-19 emerged outside of isolation.

“That is frustrating, but it is one of the things that is not really unique to New Zealand. Any contact tracing system faces these problems from time to time,” the prime minister told the media today.
This morning, Health Minister Chris Hipkins told RNZ that it appeared the student was a close contact of the subgroup who had not previously been disclosed.

Authorities are now investigating whether that was on purpose.
“That’s one of the things the investigation is looking at right now and it will include seeing if there was a deliberate decision not to disclose, or if it was just an oversight,” Hipkins said.
Ardern said it was not those currently affected who were wrong, but added that they may have come into contact with others “who have not necessarily been as helpful to our health people on the ground.”
“It just shows how important it is for people to really work closely with our health team on the ground,” he said.
“To keep other people safe, we need to know people’s close contacts, we need to know what their activity has been, and again, this is not because people are in trouble, it is because this is how we take care of each other. “.
Shortly after Ardern spoke to the media, Director General of Health Dr. Ashley Bloomfield today announced six new cases of Covid-19 in the country, all in the community.
