Covid 19 coronavirus: World Health Organization praises New Zealand response

New Zealand is receiving more praise for its response to Covid-19.

The World Health Organization says new outbreaks and entirely new pandemics will be a reality in the years to come.

Urge all countries to learn lessons and be better prepared next time.

WHO Executive Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said some countries, like New Zealand, had responded well by not repeating past mistakes.

“These countries have done well because they have done well because they have learned lessons from previous outbreaks of Sars, Mers, measles, polio, Ebola, flu and other diseases.”

Tedros said that all countries must “rebuild better”, with more investment in public health.

“This will not be the last pandemic. History teaches us that outbreaks and pandemics are a reality.

“The world must be prepared, more prepared than this time.”

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization chief of emergencies says governments providing “politically motivated” information about the coronavirus pandemic could face a political backlash.

Dr. Michael Ryan said Monday that “trying to present simplistic and simplistic solutions to people is not a winning long-term strategy.” He told reporters in Geneva that “transparency, consistency, honesty” and admitting mistakes can build trust.

Ryan spoke in general terms after being asked about the mixed messages sent by the Brazilian government regarding its response to Covid-19.

Ryan says messages related to the coronavirus sometimes come with “political overtones” and alluded to a saying that trust takes years to build, but seconds to lose.

“If communities perceive that they are getting information that is being politically manipulated or has been handled in a way that distorts the evidence, then sadly that falls back,” he said.
