Adrenaline hit a 21-year-old man when four masked teenagers entered his family’s superetta while he worked with his sister.

Manav Prasad and her younger sister were beginning to close down Kauri Park Superette in Beach Haven on Saturday night when four masked men entered.

“They were behind the cigarettes … they got on the counter and I just started yelling at them,” Prasad said.

Prasad said Stuff He grabbed a hockey stick, which is kept behind the counter for safety, and waved it to try and scare them, which he succeeded.

“I was just trying to protect what we have, we’ve already been through a lot of losses in the past,” Prasad said.

In February, the family dairy was raided twice in the space of two weeks with cash and stolen items.

On Sunday, Prasad said Stuff, the “adrenaline rush” when he saw the four masked men walk in and try to jump on the counter with an empty bag.

“I was angry and ready to fight and obviously wanted to protect my sister and the business.

“I was scared and a little scared, but I tried to stay calm.”

When she calmed down later, she said she started thinking about all the possible outcomes if they had had a gun or her sister had been working alone.

Since the robbery attempt, Prasad is much more cautious about leaving his younger sister alone on the superette.

“It has been quite a goal, there needs to be some kind of security in the area.”

When the country was on a Covid-19 alert level 4 lockdown, improved police presence and patrols meant there were no robberies, Prasad said.

“The police or security patrols in the area keep the community safe and we provide for the local community,” he said.

Prasad said some Beach Haven locals had come to see how they were doing on Sunday.

A police spokeswoman said she received a report of a theft at a store on Rangatira Rd around 6:50 p.m. Saturday.

“Four teenagers are reported to have entered the store and attempted to take items.”

Violators were still pending, the police spokeswoman said.
