Major incident in Birmingham, UK after multiple stabbings, police say

UK police say several people have been injured in a series of stabbings in the central England city of Birmingham.

West Midlands Police said officers were called in to report a stabbing shortly after midnight Sunday.

That was soon followed by reports of other stabbings in the area.

“We are aware of a number of people injured, but at the moment we are not in a position to say how many or how seriously,” the force said.

“Work is still being done to establish what happened.”

Emergency services were on site to ensure the injured received medical attention.

Police said the response will continue “for some time” and urged people to stay away from the scene. It was not immediately clear what the nature of the stabbings was or how seriously the victims were.
