A homicide investigation was launched following the death of a baby in south Auckland.
Last night, a 10-month-old boy was transferred from a Manurewa home to Starship Children’s Hospital, but died this morning, Detective Sgt. Kevin Tiernan said.
“The police are talking to various people in relation to the death,” he said.
The police have now launched a homicide investigation.
An examination of the scene was underway and a post-mortem examination was scheduled for Monday, Tiernan said.
“The police are in the early stages of the investigation and cannot comment further at this time,” he said.
A St John spokesperson said two ambulances were called to a Williams Ave property in Manurewa at 5 p.m. last night. One patient was transferred in critical condition to Middlemore Hospital.
Police were seen today at a home on William Ave.
A masked officer is standing guard in front of the two-story yellow house, where a police van is in front of it.
A second police car is parked in the concrete driveway of the house, with two other small cars parked outside.
The house overlooks Kirton Crescent Reserve, a small park with a playground that includes a slide and swing.
A neighbor told the Herald They hadn’t heard of any outages or problems until they saw several police cars arrive this afternoon.
Other neighbors declined to comment when approached.
