Former Go fair Host Kevin Milne has labeled himself “damn lucky” after being diagnosed with low-grade prostate cancer.

The 71-year-old retired announcer said Newstalk ZB Saturday morning host Jack Tame, who had received the results of a prostate biopsy this week after an MRI revealed a high chance of cancer.

“If you are one, you are very lucky. If you have five, you’re in trouble, ”Milne said.

“I have one. A small amount of cancer, but contained and slow-moving, no further treatment is required. “

Milne said that despite his relief, he and his wife felt it was wrong to celebrate, as they have several close friends battling cancer.

But he was still grateful for the experience.

“I think facing the slightest chance of death, if you survive, is a gift,” he said.

“Nothing else can push before your eyes who is and what is important.”

He added that in his case, “the wife and family were important, the home renovations were not.”

Approximately 3,100 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year in New Zealand, and around 650 die from the disease.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, with the Blue September campaign.
