Thousands of primary health care workers are expected to strike in New Zealand tomorrow.
About 3,200 nurses and administrative staff are expected to strike for eight hours, calling for pay parity with their colleagues on the district health board.
It is scheduled to move forward after mediation with employers, held yesterday, failed to reach a resolution, the New Zealand Nurses Organization confirmed in a statement.

The strike will include staff from more than 500 general practices and accident and medical centers across the country.
Chris Wilson, NZNO Industry Advisor for the Primary Health Care (PHC) Sector said that this situation was simply not good enough considering that negotiations have been going on for almost a year.
“The government has known about the urgency of pay parity in APS for at least a year, and not doing everything possible to address APS’s serious hiring and retention issues is incredible.
Ms. Wilson said the priority now should be for the parties to meet again as soon as possible after the strike and for the government to allow them to reach a resolution.
“The pay parity has been calculated at $ 15 million and, in the context of the entire healthcare sector, there is no reason why this should wait. The recognized value of our members’ work should mean that we don’t need to consider industrial action for that to be recognized. “
