The prime minister is scheduled to review alert levels later this week, after Auckland went from alert level 3 to 2.5 at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, while the rest of the country remained at level 2.

Today Jacinda Ardern was asked if the Cabinet would make decisions on alert levels during its meeting this Friday.

“I said that we would make announcements before September 6,” Ms. Ardern said.

“So we will do it in due time, at the end of the week.”

When asked during the 1pm briefing if a move to Level 1 after this week’s review was out of the question, Health Minister Chris Hipkins said today: “No, we literally haven’t gotten to that part. still.

“The councils for those cabinet meetings tend to meet at the last minute because we rely on the latest and most up-to-date information as we make those decisions.

“That information for those tends to be gathered about 36 hours before the meeting takes place.”

It comes after Health Director Dr. Ashley Bloomfield told the Health Select Committee that he had not been asked, “nor (are they) still thinking of tips to take Auckland or indeed the whole country. to Alert Level 1 “.

On whether Auckland would have to go down to Level 2 before the rest of the country could move to Level 1, Hipkins said they hadn’t made those decisions yet.

“At the moment, we are concentrating on getting everything to work at Tier 2.5 in Auckland and Tier 2 for the rest of the country,” Hipkins said.

“We are reviewing regularly to see what additional adjustments could be made to those.”

On Monday, Ms Ardern was asked if Auckland would likely remain at Tier 2 longer while the rest of the country returns to Tier 1.

Ms Ardern said: “I would not rule out any of those variations, but at this stage we are also being very cautious in the rest of the country, so they are in Level 2 agreements.”
