Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn welcome their first daughter Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran

Ed Sheeran and his wife Cherry Seaborn have welcomed a little girl into the world.

Sheeran, 29, announced the joyous news on Instagram, revealing the unique name they have chosen for their daughter: Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.

Sharing a photo of Lyra’s little booties and a colorful blanket, she said that Cherry gave birth last week.

He captioned the post: “It! A quick message from me, as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you.”

“Last week, with the help of an amazing birthing team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter, Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.”

Lyra is originally a Latin name and means harp, which is a solid choice for a music megastar.

“We are completely in love with her. Both mom and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine here. We hope you can respect our privacy at this time. Much love and I will see you when it is time to return, Ed x. “

The couple kept their pregnancy a secret during the coronavirus lockdown, and the news was made public last month.

A source told The Sun: “Ed and Cherry are over the moon. They are very excited, but they have kept things very low key.

“The confinement was a perfect excuse not to be seen too much, but things are getting closer and the excitement has been growing, so they have started to tell friends and family about it.

“They are making the final preparations at home and the baby is expected to arrive later this summer (in the UK).

“It’s a really happy time and their families are totally in love with them and can’t wait to meet the newcomer.”

The couple were friends from high school and Ed is said to have a crush on Cherry at the time. However, he left to go to college in the United States.

They started dating in 2015 and announced their engagement in January 2018 in a beloved Instagram snapshot.

Sheeran wrote: “I got myself a girlfriend just before the new year. We are so happy and in love and our cats are happy too.”

The couple were secretly married that same year on their estate in Framlingham, under the surveillance of a handful of their closest friends and family.

They threw a fancier party with friends from show business last September. Ed and Cherry move in celebrity circles in the UK and count Prince Harry, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie among friends, as well as singer Ellie Goulding.

On Christmas Eve 2019, Sheeran told his millions of followers that he would be taking a break after promoting his album Divide.
