Adele unleashes accusations of cultural appropriation with new photo

Singing superstar Adele has sparked a social media backlash with her latest almost unrecognizable post on Instagram.

The photo shows the star as fans have never seen her before: dressed in a bikini with the Jamaican flag, a feather trim on her shoulders and her hair curled into tight knots.

“Happy what would be the Notting Hill Carnival, my beloved London,” he captioned the photo, a nod to the huge annual London carnival run by members of the British West Indies community, which has been canceled this year.

But the 32-year-old star’s choice of outfit – and especially a Bantu knot hairstyle that is often worn by women of African descent – has come under fire online, amid accusations of cultural appropriation.

The Carnival-ready snap is the latest social media post from Adele, who hasn’t released an album since 25 in 2015.

The star has undergone a dramatic transformation since splitting from her husband Simon Konecki last year, reportedly sticking to a “green juice, 1000 calories a day” diet to achieve her slimmest figure.
