Three dead after accidents in Auckland, Waitaki overnight

Three people were killed in separate crashes this weekend across the country.

Police have confirmed that two people died last night after a serious accident in Macraes, Waitaki district.

The single-vehicle accident on Macraes Back Road was reported to police shortly before midnight.

Two other people were seriously injured and taken to Dunedin hospital.

Earlier in the evening, another person died after an accident in the southern Auckland suburb of Clover Park.

The accident on Boundary Rd was reported around 6:20 p.m.

Police said the South Auckland death involved a single vehicle.

However, photos from the accident scene show both a crashed car and a motorcycle on its side on the road.

The road remains closed and motorists are asked to avoid the area.

Investigations are under way into the circumstances of both accidents.
