Queensland Health Director Dr Jeannette Young has shared some of the long-term effects of the virus after patients have been declared Covid-free.

In a video shared on the Queensland Health Twitter account, she explains that while coronavirus is a “mild” illness, people do not make a full recovery once they get a negative test.

“As we learn more about the virus, we learn that for a reasonable number of people, they don’t recover, they will have long-term consequences from the disease,” he said.

“That’s because this virus doesn’t just affect the lungs; unlike the flu, this virus can affect all parts of the body.”

The number of daily coronavirus cases in Victoria has fallen below 100; On Saturday there were 94 new infections and 18 deaths.

The last time the state registered fewer than 100 cases was 55 days ago, on July 5.

The good news was overshadowed as the new deaths brought the total number of virus victims to Victoria to more than 500.

Deadly border call stirs fury

Prime Minister Scott Morrison demands answers on Queensland’s controversial border restrictions following the death of one of a woman’s unborn babies.

Kimberley Brown lives in Ballina, south of the Queensland border, and sought hospital treatment in the Sunshine State, but was denied entry.

The babies had developed twin transfusion syndrome, which causes malnutrition if left untreated.

The expectant mother was forced to travel to Sydney and yesterday it was revealed that one of her unborn twins had died.

Just over a week earlier, in response to Brown’s case, Prime Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk made the startling statement that “Queensland hospitals are for Queenslanders.”

“We need to establish these principles to alleviate the impact of these restrictions. We have to put aside the disagreements that we have had on this and come up with arrangements that can be workable and also protect people’s health,” Morrison said yesterday.

“There should be an extraordinary explanation regarding [why] someone could not receive medical treatment in this circumstance “

He indicated that the Federal Government was considering intervening to define at the national level what constitutes a coronavirus hotspot.

Palaszczuk expressed his condolences to Brown yesterday, but said he did not regret his comments on the case last week.

“We are very, very compassionate in this state,” he insisted.

Brown remains in the Sydney hospital.

Morrison indicated yesterday that the Queensland border was unnecessary.

“While the scale of the Victorian outbreak meant that the borders between New South Wales and Vic were woefully necessary, and are and still are, this does not diminish the principle that border restrictions, especially when there are no cases or very few cases in regional areas cannot and should not be sustained. “
