Free trades training for all ages will be implemented at Budget 2020, at a cost of $ 1.6 billion.

Education Minister Chris Hipkins said that extending free and targeted vocational training courses to dropouts for all ages would help people who had lost their jobs due to the consequences of Covid-19.

“It will include courses linked to the skills needs of industry, construction and construction, agriculture and manufacturing, and also vocational courses such as community health, counseling and care work.

A Maori Learning Fund will be created to design group training schemes to employ Maori as apprentices.

“It will work by providing personalized support for Maori employers to face Maori apprentices,” said Employment Minister Willie Jackson.

Employment services of the Ministry of Social Development will obtain an additional $ 150 million to meet the increased demand for Covid-19 from people entering the benefits system.

It will be available from July 1.
