A man caught allegedly breaking into commercial property in Christchurch was arrested after fleeing the police.
Police were called to the Durham St property at 12.40 a.m. Wednesday and saw the criminal flee in a car.
A police spokesman said the vehicle was followed, but the officers abandoned the chase due to the way they drove.
The car was shot down nearby and a man was arrested without further incident.

Kevin Andrew Chun, 47, appeared Wednesday in Christchurch District Court via audio-visual link on theft charges, possession of a hammer, bolt cutters, and a screwdriver for theft, without stopping before the police and not remain detained. He is also accused of violating the conditions of the bail.
Chun was detained in custody until Friday. He made no allegations on any of the charges.
